Before

Nun Monkton, North Yorkshire, 2021

We had the fantastic opportunity to work our magic on a completely blank canvas towards the end of 2021. Our brief was to create a “canopy of greenery” to completely seclude them from the outside world. Our lovely clients wanted ample space to entertain family and friends but also more secluded seating areas for their morning coffee and evening G&T. We were asked to design a garden that had plenty of evergreen planting that gave year-round interest with the occasional splashes of perennial colour. We are all so happy with the end result.

“Meticulous planning is the key to a good garden.”

After

All of our gardens are designed completely to scale. We even model your house exactly as it stands to give you a super-realistic impression of your future garden.

A glass pergola was a must for our clients, allowing them to use their seating area in all weathers. Plenty of greenery on the boundary can be enjoyed by both neighbours!

We were able to transform this narrow section of the garden at the side of the house into an inviting entertainment space. The arch at the end of this zone draws your eyes through the greenery into the other garden spaces.

This elevated view of the patio and large path highlights the exceptional effect “zoning” your garden can have. Who’d have thought you could fit all of this in that space!

We under-planted the trees in this garden with rich and vibrant foliage which looks fabulous throughout the year. We simply love the pure white bark of the Himalayan birch trees!

Hidden away from view of the house is our large statement lawn. The strategic planting of trees in this garden gives the desired effect of separation, and gives this area a completely different and enclosed feel to the front section near the house.

Tucked in the corner underneath a canopy of mature ornamental trees in the dappled shade is the large seating area and fire pit, perfect for those long summer evenings. A small but impressive flower bed with box ball, hardy geranium and the tall verbena bonariensis will offer wonderful colour for most of the year.

When perched on this large ‘L shaped’ outdoor sofa, you can just about see the house through the array of planting. Hints of colour throughout the garden draw your eyes, while the hidden path to the right leads back to the house through another secret archway.

The middle path separating patio and lawn is a beauty on its’ own. The more shady bed to the left is home to hostas and rhododendron, while a row of English lavender lies in the sun. The archway at the end of the path will lead you round to the secluded corner seating area.

Every corner of the garden can be designed to look superb. This little corner has been transformed with evergreen planting and a canopy of foliage from the tall ornamental trees.

We moved the shed from its original location to the opposite side of the garden. Don’t you think it looks just wonderful here? The sandy gravel gives this path a rustic feel, opposed by the neat edges of the planted areas to offer a sense of formality.
